yep, 3.5" steel here as well. I have had a few different ones, even did the 2 shaft scenario. I never liked any of them, settle on the 3.5". The 3.5" is more than enough. You'll break the joint before you'll have issues, and that isn't happening with the 1350 splicer. if it isn't balanced properly, then it doesn't matter what you have. A 6" unbalanced shaft will crash and burn as well.
Ask the builder what the weight of the 3.5 versus the 4 is. out of curiosity. When I got that 3.5 steel, I was like HOLY *****...I think I just lost a 10th in the 1/4.
