Default gm 4.10's vs. aftermarket 4.10's

what is the diff in quality and strength from the gm gears to the yukons or motive or richmond. is it just the price? the aftermarket gears are cheaper.
any thoughts

Ive heard of people blowing up stock gears, never heard of people destroying yukon gears. I run yukons on all my junk, and my rock crawler. I rock that **** harddddddd. Most of the comp guys run the same.

people break gears all the time. I've heard of yukons breaking, genuine, motive, etc. However, they're all good brands. As long as you break them in properly and you stay within a reasonable horsepower limit, your chances of breaking them are very slim.

Usually its the G80 that blows up and take the gears with it. I'd venture to say that 90% of people that have swapped gears are using aftermarket, and failures really are few and far between.

I've always been told that factory OEM ring/pinion sets (manufactured by AAM) were the best. Many people complain of noisy gears after they install an aftermarket set. OEM gears are not only quiet, but they are very reliable too. I guess it all depends on personal preference and what mods/plans you have....just like the rest of the automotive world, lol.

I will never put anything other than OEM AAM gears in any GM vehicle I own. They're more expensive, but proven quieter, and many think stronger.

I am running a set of Strange R&P. No problems. There is a little noise. But, I think it is from having more teeth spinning around than anything. It is very subtle and the exhaust covers most of it up.
