Default GM 9.5" 8 Lug to 6 Lug Conversion

I started with a 2003-ish 8 lug 9.5" 14 bolt.

Before:

After:

The bare minimum you need for this conversion are replacement axle shafts for an 88 to 98 Z71 9.5 inch axle, and brake rotor part number Delco 18A1753 or equivalent. Rear; with 7300lb GVW

You come out much cheaper doing it this way as opposed to trying to find a salvaged AXN axle. You also get larger axle tubes, larger wheel bearings, larger shafts, and the larger three-quarter ton brakes.

Keep in mind a regular GMT400 Z71 is going to have an 8.5" 10 bolt. It would need the F44 HD suspension package to have the 9.5" and not a lot of them had it. If someone orders axle shafts based on 88-98 Z71 they should be careful to look for the 9.5" in the description as it was definitely optional, most of 'em are 8.5". Or, order based on the light duty K2500 (6 lug, 7200 lb GVWR)

Great swap!

This allow use of the Factory 2500 brake brackets, caliper with pads, backing plates and Parking prake???

Assuming you need at least a 17 inch rim?

That's the rotor from a 2003-2005/6 Chevy Express/GMC Savana 2500 van, the 6 lug versions of those came with a 16" wheel. Dunno how close the factory wheel fits, aftermarket 16" wheel fitment could be another story depending on design.

The 16 inch aluminum PYO rims are very close. I would suspect some aftermarket wheels you would need a 17.

17's are also a little more common in the after market.

Thanks! You are correct. I did mention that you have to specify the 9.5 inch axle.

Yes. Everything bolts up! I believe you can use 16 inch rims as those were the factory option for the truck this axle came out of.

Do you use wheel bearings/seals for the 88-98 truck you get the axle shafts from, or is all the 8 lug NBS stuff compatible with the OBS 6 lug axle shafts? The NBS semi-floater has the same pinion length and u-joint size as the quadrasteer dana 60 my Sierra has, this would be a great bolt in upgrade for me.
