I wouldn't invest one dollar in a 10 bolt, a semi float 14 bolt would be a real fix depending on how hard you play.

Do you have reasoning behind this? With just a true trac the 8.6 10 bolt has handled well over 600rwhp.

For the OP, get a TA diff girdle for it too. It helps strengthen it.

I'm sure it's been done once or twice but how dependable is it at those levels? Besides putting in an aftermarket carrier only fixes the "gov bomb" issue, it doesn't address all the gear deflection issues and weakling axle sizes.

build a 10 bolt all day long and it still won't be as resilient as a 20 year old junkyard 14bolt, just throwing other ideas out there for the op.

A 10 bolt will be fine for what you are doing.... sure a 14 bolt would be bigger better yadda yadda.... A properly setup 10 bolt with good parts in it will take you a long way.

Beating the dead horse... My old setup put down 895ft-lbs through just an 8.6 and a true trac. Never skipped a beat at the track in a 6000lb truck doing boosted launches with slicks, either. They're pretty tough
