Default GMT-900 14-bolt under a GMT-800 truck ?'s...

GMT-900 14-bolts seem to be more accessible when compared to the GMT-800 AXN axle at this time. What is need for this swap?

I understand that it is basically a direct swap except for the shock mounts on the axle. Is that correct? What needs to be done to overcome this?

Grinder and a Welder ?
In for details, ie track width, available BRAKE Backing plates, ABS sensors, and traction aid differentials for the 14 bolt semifloater.

You need a complete rear end assembly.
Correct, its a direct swap
Nothing, they will still line up.

You will need to retain the stock brake flex hose and based off the pic the OE AXN brake pipes will tie right in past that literally drop it out and stick it in.

For e brake cables if you can find a set from 06 AXN truck anymore then they will work with no adaptation. If you cant the NNBS cables are workable with some minor fab modifications If you still have them. The NNBS cables are disco from GM these days but the axle is the same in 14 up truck and you can get those cables from gm still for now. I just ordered a set for a 18 6.2 to use and install an AXN in a NNBS but I had to fab a couple brackets and change the intermediate frame cable to the14 up newer style. Past those two mods thats all you need to use newer 14 up axn brake cables in a older truck. intermediate cable was 30 bucks and the brake cables one side was 100 and other side was 180.
