Help with getting wider (stance) wheels and tires on my 4x4 W/O rubbing. backspacing?
Hey Guys,
I am going to a huge swap meet next weekend (Haydays, sept 9-10)
There will be a lot of wheels/tires for sale, and I would like to figure out what size I need before I go.
My suspension is stock, Tbars cranked.
I want the wheels/tires to be more flush with the fender flares.
I like the stance of the 3/4 ton trucks.
I am not looking for 10 wide rims and 33" tires.
I do occasionally drive crazy and use my full suspension travel.
So, just not rubbing while driving down the street won't cut it.
I am hoping to stay with 275/285s and maybe 8" rims and just get different backspacing so they fit the truck right.
I drive a lot of highway and don't want a noisy gas guzzeler.
I don't even know what the backspacing is on the stock rims, or exactly how to correctly measure it when I look at rims for sale.
Can anyone help me out?
PS. Spacers behind stock rims = trouble?

Unfortunately you can't run a 285/75/16 since you have 17's, but I believe some companies make a 285/70/17. BFG makes them in an AT and MT. I run a 285/75/16 Procomp X Terrain on 16x8 Welds with 4.625" of backspacing. I had to trim a bit out of my front inner fender liner behind the washer fluid reservoir, but its not noticeable. Now the necessary pictures.
If you have anything specific you want a picture of, I'll see what I can do.

Hey thanks man.
That's very helpful.
I measured my stock rims at about 5 1/2" backspacing, and It looks like another inch would be about right.
That picture of your truck from the back looks like what I want.
With my flares, it should fit nicely like that.
BTW, nice looking truck.
