In 05 you 3 different options. You had with rear drum, with rear disc, and over a certain GVWR option which was also 4 wheel disc. I believe the over a certian GVRW is the 1500HD model
Id thought the option for rear disc was with rc only because of the proportioning valve, and the other was drum or disc.... And yeah the over gvwr was hd... Speaking of proportioning valves..... Do all the rear drum trucks have one or is it just the rcsb and tahoe.... Those seem to be the only models ive seen them on is the short wheel base models

Is it 2WD?

Look at the RPO code and see if it is a true SS truck,

Previous owner may have also swapped to rear disc brakes too.

I guarantee it didn't leave the factory that way.

It may also be a slavage title vehicle or a vehicle with a Vin Swap...

I know some one that has a 2001 Silverado at least on paper. has all the corect Vins but its sitting on a 2003 2500 chassis and drivetrain. The vin in the Computer comes back as a 2003 2500 model truck...

Just saying. Guy didn't even know it until I brought it to his attention.

The Vin on the truck states It's a 1500 series with a 5.3L but the engine is clearly a 6.0/4l80e chassis with 10.5 floater in the rear and 8 lugs all the way around. The frame is also the taller/thicker 2500 frame.

Never seen it on the extended cab or crew cab, and from what I am told it has something to do with a pressure sensor it's not actually a proportioning valve.

I don't have a tahoe to look at. and the 2 RC's I have had, I did not see it although 1 was a 2500 and both were long beds.

I think youre right about the sensor but i think it sends signal to the ebcm to cut pressure to rears if theyre getting to much or whatever as opposed to a light or whatever, my boys 2001 tahoe has one the 04 i did the brake line kit on week before last had one... Havent checked my 08 yukon yet.....

2003 and 2004 SSS were AWD only

2005 was the last year for AWD on the SSS and the first year you could get it in 2WD.

2006 and 2007 SSS were 2WD only.

By the way you could get a vortec high output option in 2004-2005 or the Vortec max option in 2006 which also came with the LQ9/4L65E combo in a 1500 ecsb chassis... Not to mention the 1500 HD would have a 6.0L/4L80E combo in the crew cab, of course that would be 8 lug though..

And then there is always the swap's too.

Just saying... You might have to do some digging...

When it's in, Id the computer with your scanner and see if

1. The Vin matches the exterior vins on the truck

2. The OS is correct for the vin number. Look here https://tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web
