I just dropped my pan so I could install my new Circle D and I find this:

I think it's gotta be the stator or turbine from the TCS verter. I romped on the truck since I got it running about 2 weeks ago maybe 25 times. I tried to keep it to a minimum so this wouldn't happen. Funny thing is the trans felt great and the temps didn't get very high. I just got my LC1 to work so I did a 3 runs at wot and the truck never got past 160.

After looking at some of my other trans parts, I am thinking the pieces might be from the sun gear or planetaries or teeth on the direct drum where the planetaries ride. The metal pieces are curved like a tooth from the sun gear or planetaries. here is a pic

I am contemplating puting the truck back together so I can make it to the transmission parts store 40 miles round trip. but I don't wanna eff it up any more than it already is. I don't know if there is hope for the internals on this unit.

So this is what my truck/I have killed transmission wise:

2007 4l65e corvette servo
cause of death: it's a 4l65e

2003 4l80e hd2
cause of death: broken bell housing/rear cooler line fitting

2007 4l80e dual fed direct drum, 727 snap ring, transgo springs pump mod, etc
cause of death: unknown

80E's aren't fragile. Have you built all of these transmissions yourself?

You are right. However given the weight of my truck and the power I have I do believe there is room for disaster. I do believe I have read Jake (the trans builder) and Vince B, they said they have seen 80e's fail on trucks with a lot less power than I have. On the other hand there are guys with way more power than me that are doing fine.
As for the work on the trans, I did the corvette servo on the 65 but it was a given that trans was gonna break.
The 03 80e i had was tired when I got it and had black fluid in it. I blew the driveshaft which in turn broke the bellhousing. I did not use the longer rear cooler line for the trans which resulted in lubrication issues, further wasting the already wasted clutches. When I was doing the 80e swap I found nothing about the 97+ longer cooler line fitting.
The new one I completely rebuilt and converted to 2wd from 4x4. Everything was within the recommended tolerances.

Yes Vanilla face. I think I am going to have to copy you and get a rcsb gmt800. I am just about done with this heavy *** **** and i don't like the way the single cab gmt900's look. I don't know if I should sell it modded or demod it first. I initially bought the crewcab for my Doberman that's all. I never intended on puting people in the truck. Bastards never pick their **** up and always get dirt or makeup or trash etc in the visors, carpet, everywhere.

Anyhoo I took the trans apart and found a bushing (612 from atsg manual) beneath the forward clutch drum that was shredded apart. I am thinking the cause of this is due to the heavy transgo springs or maybe the holes that were drilled into the valve body. The shift were pretty damn firm and chirped the tires pretty easily on the 1-2 shift. I think I might have drilled the holes for the 2-3 and 3-4 shift too much because the truck would definitely shift hard here. I remember the truck chirping the tires on the 2-3 and getting a little sideways after getting into 3rd while getting on a slightly angled on ramp. The forward clutch is applied through all forward gears so this bushing had a lot of stress the whole time I would step on it. I'm thinking rollerize the forward clutch drum and I shouldn't have a prooblem.

Yeah I saw a thread you made. I think it was the plastic thrust washer between the rear reaction carrier and output carrier planetary. I am wondering how that happened. My guess is that it was installed in the wrong holes i.e. the divots where the pinion gear rods go. There could have been quite a few reasone that happened in your case.
