High speed driveshaft help
I've been on the phone most of the afternoon with driveshaft companies and DAMN their expensive! I'm needing one that will hold up to 7000 rpm and 58.750" from center to center (of joint holes). Mark Williams is the only company that will build an aluminum shaft (thier bonded MMC or whatever) and they only do it in 1350 series so i'd have to buy a rear yoke as well as the front. That comes to $1010 total . Carbon fiber start out at $900 or so + $400 worth of yoke needed.
Basically I can spend $450-550 on a std 4" aluminum shaft and keep it down below 6500 rpm. My engine is pulling HARD when it hits the rev limiter at 6500 now. One option could be to dyno in 3rd but I don't really want to do that of course. I have warped a stock steel shaft and a 4" Inland empire aluminum shaft already. The aluminum one vibrates at 85-90mph now. I got it second hand and had it shortened so it may have been a little bowed to start with. How much do you think i'd have in a 2 piece shaft and hanger bearing set up? I guess I could get a stock one from a junkyard and have it shortened/lenthened etc. Or would the stock one hold up. What have you guys turned with the stock 2 piece shafts?

I would send a pm to the ImpostorSS guy. His driveshaft was around that price range and I was at the dyno with him running his truck to well past 6k in 4th without vibration. He also has a regular cab like yours with 4.56 gear and 6 speed. The last time out he put down 500 to the tires if strength is in question (although he has yet to run slick's with it).

yeah, 6 speed swap. first stock shaft shortened, second used Inland 4" aluminum shortened. The stock shaft was fine till 15 pulls on the dyno to 6500 and a couple stents to 160 on the way home. The alum shaft has always vibed above 90-100 since I swaped from 3.73's to 4.30's. I've never had it on the dyno. It's turning a lot more rpm now with the 4.30's at the same speed.
