Default High tranny temps. ideas?

So, I drove the truck about a 4 hour drive and noticed I was getting tranny temps between 190 and 200. This was on an 80 degree night on the interstate. It has tripped the light for tranny fluid overtemp a few times, but I never really payed attention because I was usually idiling in the ridiculous heat.

I first noticed the over temp after installing my Cal speed Lts and ory. It seemed the y pipe was awfully close to the tranny pan. Anyone have problems with this?

What are some good ways to get this temp down. Would a big cooler bring the temps down enough? Would header wrapping the y pipe do any good. Tranny is bone stock.

Truth.

After installing that bad boy, you'll likely be below 150.

What's acceptable for tranny temps? Yanks website says something like 88-122 ? If I could keep them under 150 would that be a point to quit worrying about temps? I've always heard high temps and rough downshifts are what hurt 4l60s

After my tranny rebuild(stock stall) I've been running around 170-185ish idk why they're higher. I'm going to order a 40k cooler this week and hope it solves my problems

150-170 is a good temp in my opinion. Yank says 88-122? Good luck getting them that low, that's too cold.

I dont think the ory is the problem as slot of guys run this including myself. Did this start to happen after your install? I would still run the 40k cooler as heat kills the ticking time bomb.

Went back through yanks site. They said the tranny must be between 86-122 when you check the tranny fluid. Sorry I remembered the wrong thing.

You guys are making me feel a lot better about my temps. The y pipe is probably within 3/8s of an inch from my tranny pan. If I can get under it some time soon I'll snap some pics

As long as your under 190*, your fine.. 200+ and its time to pull over and let if cool off.. 225+ and id get worried.. 250+ just sell it..
ok kidding on the last one.

Ive been running a trucool 40K for quite a few years now and only time i see 150+ is in the 100* heat while stop and go traffic.

It took me 30 minutes of playing in a field to get mine up to 200*, that included a whole lot of rpms and not moving anywhere in some goey mud..
Turned the fans on high and bout 10 min they dropped down to 175 and off we went again..

trucool 40 is the way to go!
