hole in transfer case

ok so i've been working on this truck its got a funny noise and we thought it was the rearend. well he just showed me where there was a hole in his transfer case where something on the inside had worn through. what can cause this? and could it be our noise?

yeah right after i made this thread i remembered i read about that somewhere and did a search and found it lol. so do we replace the clip and use his jb welded back half or try and find a new back half? any body have a part number for the back half?
