Default How to Beef Up my new 6L80E to last with 500-550RWHP?

Ok guys, I've got a 2011 Silverado 1500 RCSB 5.3L 6L80E. Eventually I wanna go FI & hopefully end up with around 500-550RWHP. I'm gonna go the route FastNBlu went & beef up the drivetrain first to handle all the extra HP. I did a search on this site for the 6L80E but all I come up with is 3 & 4 year old post's that don't really tell anything about beefing them up, or the Circle D Upgrade that doesn't come with a Warranty. So far I've come up with :

-Trucool 40K Trans Cooler
-is there a Shift Kit & Servo's for these tranny's?
-what about Heavy Duty Clutches?

I'm new to this stuff so any help/ advice is greatly welcomed!

Oh yeah also, this is just my playtoy, not my work DD. Probly won't see much track time. Just around town fun, & it will get beat on pretty heavily.

A stock 4L80E will handle 500HP just fine IMHO. Shoot FLT (Finish Line Transmissions----->list on right) an email or PM on here to see if there is anything in particular they would suggest.

My gutsy opinion on a beefing up an 80e, 4speed or 6 speed...if you have the money to do it, put it in a jar and save it for the day it breaks, if it does. I think it will be fine with 500HP.

My not so gutsy opinion on it all...not many stories floating around due to the 6L only being out for a little while in the trucks. That could be good, or just not enough people throwing power to them yet.

Dewey, I believe that the 6L80E is not in the same league as the 4L80E when it comes to holding up to power. I by all means hope that I am wrong but I discussed this trans with my trans builder.

Thanks for the compliment.

I see u don't fool around; you just wrecked a few weeks ago, & u already replaced it. Anyway, even if I didn't have a FLT, I'd look into them. They turn out fine products! I thought I saw FLT or CircleD had 6L80E upgrades in the works. I just don't remember who / how long ago.
A 40K isn't a bad idea on even a stocker IMO, like if u tow or beat on it. Or if u plan on stall later on. A tranny's life will always be extended if it doesn't get hot. That dramatically shortens its' life.
It may take some time, but 6L80E upgrades will come out, it's just a question as to when, from who, & how much. And doing so RELIABLY.

I think Dewey is right, get a rainy day jar for when, if, it breaks. It's no secret that 4L80E's are strong stock, let alone modded. 6L80E's have increased TQ. capacity over "60 series" trannies & (I'd think over 4L80E's too). But the 6L80E's have yet to prove themselves from what I've read on PT. Understand, I mean stock applications may be fine, but we're referring to modding trucks. IDk what the weak points are on a 6L80E, but on a 4L80E they've been found & fixed.

gotcha. I guess jamming more gears in they'd have to give something up and that would be thickness and sturdiness of the other items. Get FLT on the phone and find out their side.

A trans tune by a reputable tunner is the MOST important factor in the life of a 6L trans.... Get somebody that has knowledge and experience with them.. This would be the first mod I would do.

Well then, I guess I will just have to be ready to drop some $$$ on a new one when & if it blows. A Torque Converter would also help extend the life of the transmission as well correct. So is there no Shift Kits for these? I guess ill plan on doing a Tranny Cooler & Torque Converter & call it good.

Well to be honest, after my truck was totaled I just went to replace it with the Cobalt for work like I had before my CCSB because it was way better on gas & I drive a lot & get paid by the mile. Plus I didn't wanna ruin another truck with paint overspray, dents, & scratches in the shipyards everyday.

I knew for sure that I was getting the car for work, but I couldn't stop checking out the truck while I was doing paperwork & running credit checks. I had a friend with me that I had to drop off at home because buying a vehicle takes FOREVER! Anyways the guy said "you wanna take him in the Truck?" & handed me the keys. I didn't think twice! It was about a 20 mile trip each way so needless to say I got a NICE FEEL for the truck on the way to my buddies house & by the time I got back to the dealership I just couldn't let it pass me by. It was the color I wanted & the only 5.3 on the lot, plus all the Goodies it came with. I got a really good deal on the 2 car deal & they gave me all of the 2010 end of the year close out rebates on the 2011.
