Default How can we stop better?

Hey guys... been awhile since i been on here cause dial up sucks.....

But i have 170k miles on my factory front brakes... the pads and rotors both look brand new... No lip on the edge of the rotor to catch your finger nail.

It doesnt like to stop that great anymore.. so im prob goin to flush out my brake system and get new fluid in there and try that before i go spend some money on new rotors and pads..

But if i do decide to get new parts... what would you guys suggest?
I priced everything at the local store for $103 with good pads.. and $140 with really good pads.

I have Stock 16" aluminum rims and wonderin what other brakes i can use. I had the Power Slot Big Brake kit but found out that the Rotors are bigger than my Rims...

Should i just go with the local parts store or look into some Powerslot rotors and Hawk pads??

Lil help please....

Hey Jonathan, yeah, good question. The big brake kits will require 18" wheels minimum and they are so damn expensive. That only leaves rotors and pads, not sure if rotors offer any gain in stopping performance other than the limited cooling from less surface area (drilled).
I have 26K miles on the truck and am at 50% wear so I am thinking I'd just go with a good set of pads and forget rotors untill they need replacing.

Forgot to mention braided brake lines nmight help if you haven't done them already!

After my front rotors were warpped and cracked, even though my pads looked fine, I decided to upgrade my setup. Even though I had 18's I didnt want to use a big brake kit so I could use my 16's at the track. I went with Brembo blank (not drilled or slotted) rotors, Hawk HD-HPS pads, Earl's stainless braided lines and flushed the entire system with ATE SuperBlue fluid. The petal fell is significantly firmer and I feel it stops a lot better. Now for the drawbacks... The rotor hats and ducts are not coated so they got very rusty very quick. The metalic pads dust very badly and have slightly pitted my raw aluminum rims (because I dont keep them clean as I should) and the pads squelled under light breaking for a long time (probablly 20K miles) before they stopped doing it. I would do this over again but would paint the rotors prior to installation and may use a different ceramic based pad instead. My Tahoe is probablly going to need brakes in the next 10k miles but I am thinking of doing a 'big brake' swap on it though since I can put on bigger wheels and keep them on.

I had my rotors turned in hopes to get by for a while longer without having to buy new rotors. I also installed braided lines and flushed the system with DOT4 fluid. All that helped my stopping power feel much better. I'm sure there is still plenty of room for improvement, but I'm happy for now.

I got my braided lines from summit.
