Default How do I pick a transmission?

I am building a street ride out of a 1955 2nd series pickup. I came across a 6.0L LQ4 and I am new to this 3rd gen stuff. I had anticiptaed using a 4L60E, just because that seemed like a normal combination. I am really not 100% sure of what is what with engine/tranny combos. Are all 4L60E's the same? Should I use a different combo? Another tranny? Or can I use any 2wd 4L60E? Please help my ignorance!

The first question I have is what kind of power are you planning on making with this truck? This will help us help you decide which trans would be best for your needs. If you go with a 60 I would make sure to get one with the correct bellhousing on it. There are different years for this trans. Make sure to get something 99 and later that came from a ls1. If you have the complete harness with the 6.0L then one for a truck would be a good choice. It will have the correct linkage for the neutral switch/manual lever position switch. If you are looking to get a new trans for this project let us know. Sale below. Vince

Well, I figure to make less than 400HP. I only have the LQ4 longblock right now and looks like I am going to try and go with FBody FEAD with LS1 or LS6 intake. That, so far, is all I have. I am not in a huge hurry as we are "ground-upping" this project and I still have a good bit of frame work to do. But I wanted to get started looking for the best deals and I'll need it to do a mock up and see what modifications I may have to do to the floor board and firewall to make it all jive. Right now that's all I got. Thanks for the info and any more would be greatly appreciated!!!

I think a 4l60e will work for you. I'll have to take a look to see if I have any junk mock-up cases laying around. Where are you located?

Also, in case you need to know, the truck is going to weigh in at around 3000-3500 lbs. I appreciate the info from all!!
