Default how does a stall converter work?

reading all these threads about stalls has me wondering how the torque converter works when you get a higher stalled verison

say a 3000rpm stall, does my truck not move until i get to 3000rpm or what?

could someone please give me a detailed explanation of how it works or post a link or something

also would like to know what "flash" means when referring to TCs

i have a vague idea but very unclear on most parts of it

and how can a 3k stall be DD-able

FLASH IS PRETTY MUCH IF YOU HOLD THE BRAKE AND NAIL IT.... THE RPM IT WILL HOOK UP AT..... THE STALL OF A TC WILL ACTUALLY CHANGE DEPENDING ON THE MOTOR AND THE TQ IT MAKES..... IT COULD STALL EARLIER OR LATER THAN ITS RATED AT.

HERES A GOOD DETAILED EXPLANATION

It might rev a little higher, but it won't rev to 3000... unless you have it floored...

Yanks are 'tight" . If yo have a TT3000 installed and are on level ground, when you go from park to "D" and release the brake you will start rollimg-like normal.

You can be cruising along at 15mph at 2000 rpm or less but your TC is slipping, ok? When you nail it, it will spin right up to ~3000 rpms and you'll move!

I would suggest a large aux. trans cooler, I run the largest B&M and my temps stay nice and low.

I was concerned too before I got my first stall.

I run a very loose 2800. That doesnt mean it takes 2800 rpms to move my truck. I dont remember about my stock converter but mine will start pullin ghte truck for around town at close to 1500rpms.

Going from stock to 3000 you will loose a little bit maybe 1-2 mpg in the city

DD'ed a 3900 for 3-4 months and it wasnt bad at all, I have had 4 stalls ranging from 2800 to 3900 and IMO a 3K-3200 is a perfect compromise. I have also driven many other trucks with stalls, and I like the way the Fuddle converters and the Yanks act. Never driven a PI equipped truck though.
