Hahah this reminds me of a thread I saw in another truck forum a few years ago. Some guy was asking if it was bad to drive around in 4hi all the time, everyone said yes he could blow up the t-case. He said he didn't believe them, and to prove it he was gonna go do some donuts in the street in 4hi. About 15minutes later he came back and said that he guessed they were right and that his t-case was in about 1000 pieces in the street. I laughed for a long time after reading that.

It's not that I dont think something will blow, I know it will i have plenty of experience in areas of this, I was curious as to what would go wrong as I've never been stupid enough to ever even take it over 35mph in 4lo and all of those times were driving on the beach ******* around. But I did get my question answered which was that the downfall is in the tranny since you will be running like 6500rpm in 2nd gear and probably max out in 4th running only 70mph if that.

This thread did get me thinking. Design of todays 4wd transfer cases is for those that go off road and do heavy work with their trucks. What if you approached it with the idea of the weekend drag racer. Gearing 4LO in the transfer case for weekend racing.

The gears are so tiny imagine the rpms those things are spinning at in the tcase just at 10mph. I guarantee stock parts arent meant to hold up to 20,000 rpm in the t case in 4lo at 50 mph. The only benefit you would see would be for .2 second until you ran out of gear.
just my .02

but to answer the question I think you could blow it up fairly quickly, if you got through two pass down the 1/4 in 4lo at wot Id be suprised
dont forget the vid if you do try it Ive never seen a transfer case explode

i've got vid i need to down load it the night snakeeater and i went to the track snakeeater talk me into to doing one 4lo run. my normal run were like 16.8 in 4lo i got a 16 and spanked a new sentra se-r. it jerk like a mother off the line and each gear just pounded away it was nice but right when you let off put it in nuetral if you don't it slows down real fast. my time was like 16.0 at 84mph. but i don't think i'll be doing it again just wanted to try it once and figured i'd better do it while it was under warranty.
