My thinking was to make a new one to replace but to also as a skid plate for the turbo... ill be riding without it until then...

They are there to address oscillation problems the 1999 and 2000 trucks had under certain conditions. Experiencing the problem without the braces requires a just-right combination of speed, load, tire pressure, and expansion joints in the road. It's very similar to when you see a F-250 going down the highway at about 75 and the frame is oscillating so much that the gap between the cab and bed is changing by 1.5" as its proud owner inside is getting his teeth knocked down his throat. There are some videos on YouTube that test frame harmonics - crazy stuff how energy can be magnified at just the right frequency.
