How to know which transmission you have?
Kind of a noob question, but I know nothing about trannys... any idea on how to know which tranny you have? '05 Silverado... VIN.. or something to look for under the truck?

Joe Gibbs ex cab should be a auto, if so it's a 60e unless someone swapped it. Does the bell housing have a little thin metal plate that can be popped off? It should be about 2" in diameter. Like pop can thin.
80e has a removable lower bellhousing where as the 60/65/70e is one piece, pans are different, case is different. If you are not sure just post a pic of the pan.

There is an M code in the RPO that will tell you what trans you have. This tag is in the Glove box. It's basically a build list of every option your truck is equipped with.
In 2005 it was most likely an M30 4L60E auto transmission.
Here is a list of all the ones I know of that would apply to Silverado's
M30= 4L60E
M32= 4L65E
MT1= 4L80E
MYC= 6L80E
MYD= 6L90E
MG5= Wide ratio NV3500 manual
M50= Close ratio NV3500 manual
