How long to change a 4l60E converter?
I've never really messed with auto transmissions before, just a couple clutch changes on manuals. How long would you expect this job to take with good basic mechanical knowledge? I can tackle just about anything, but autos, especially internals, have always put fear in me. I've read the directions over and over, am I accurate in guessing about 3 or 4 hours? No lift, home job with a jack, stands, wrenches, and sockets.
Also, how does cruise control act with a 3200 Circle D? Right now if I coast down a hill with cruise, when the road turns uphill and the truck accelerates again the converter unlocks and the rpms jump for just a couple seconds. Rather annoying if I say so myself. Is this exaggerated even further with a higher stall converter?
Truck in sig if it matters.

first time with no lift. about 4 hours, on a lift its takes me about hour half. but im not a pro so yea...but you dont even to drop the tranny just slide it back a little bit.. and make sure you install the new verter correctly, and measure from the bellhousing to the verter to make sure its completely seated.

Hand tools converter swap on your back! Wow, that is youth and determination there. Get a friend to help, borrow a long extension, and count on spending the better part of a day on it if you use all the bolts on the re-install.

Thanks for the replies guys. The funny thing is, is that I have access to a lift, and all the air tools I would need at my brothers shop he works at, but I'm trying to swap this without him knowing so I can race him again.
Maybe I'll scrap that idea and have him help me.

if this is your first time swapping a converter i suggest you get help from someone who has done it before. If you have access to a lift and air tools that is even better.
Being your first time, look forward to spending most of the day swapping it out.
Things to look for:
Ff your exhaust is stock, you will need to remove it before starting.
Disconnect the positive battery cable
Have a pan ready for any leaking oil when removing the driveshaft trom tranny
Be careful when disconnecting park neutral switch and all other sensors. do not yank on any wires.
put some tranny fluid in converter before seating.
Make sure converter is seated correctly when reinstalling
Make sure line locks are in place before putting tranny back in place to ease reconnecting lines
Make sure you put dipstick back on tranny before you get it all the way back up in place. It will be a headache for you if you try to install dipstick once tranny is back in place. it is very easy to forget to put dipstick back in while tranny is going back up.
and remember, it will all be worth it when its running.

took me 4.5 hours with hand tools, first time ever swapping a converter.. took off mani. to reach top three bolts
edit: oh ya make sure you get the cooler line clips on right.. they will blow off and shoot fluid on your exhaust. it will start a fire. don't ask how I know..
