How long do built trannys last
#12
That's kind of like asking, "How many squares of toilet paper am I going to need to wipe my *** after I take a ****?"
And an answer you might receive would be: What did you have to eat yesturday? Was it brick solid, solid but not firm, mustard brown soft, beer **** puff mud, or full-out liquid.
If full-out liquid, How would you rate the splash back?
If solid, was the exit with a blunt end or a slow taper? Was the taper firm or mustard brown soft?

Driving habits, weight, not getting tranny too hot & track use. Not winding the **** outta the RPM's prolly would help too. I guess there's alot of **** to consider.

My tranny is on it's 3rd - 4th year with no issues what-so-ever. I've put about 1000hp through it and it's still tip top!!

i went 160000 miles on a stock 4l60e behind a cammed 4.8. it started to slip so i had it built with heavy duty clutches, sun gear, 5 pinion planetaries, billet servos, etc, etc. only took me 6000 miles to rip it to pieces behind same motor.

Where's the Beef?

My stock lasted 115-120k
First built lasted 8 months before the rear planetary exploded. 2nd one kept blowing fluid out and burned up the clutches after about 8-10 months IIRC. 3rd built has been running flawlessly for several months now.
As stated. there is no answer. Keep the temps down and pray to whoever it is you pray to.

Or...power was added, & kept being added that wasn't there on the stock ones.
Cause if stockers hold up better than built, why would 1 upgrade their unit?
