My buddy who tunes my truck said he removed a couple codes and runs it like a 4l60e trans. This is with the PCM of NC swap box. He has the same setup in his maggied 408 Avalanche

If it's a swap harness like the Frost version then you SHOULD NOT segment swap. The harness is there to translate the existing 60E shift sequence into something the 80E shift sequence can understand. There IS tuning required, some codes have to be tuned out, one has to be modified so that certain diagnostics don't run on shift pressures, etc. Aside from that it works just like a stock 60E.

No lockup issues whatsoever. Tune like you would a 60E except less line pressure...a soggy shift in a 60E is equivalent to breaking the u-joint on an 80E.

Craigslist 85e $500
Circle D, flywheel, shipping $1060
Transgo $120
fluid $30
filter $10
cooler brackets $75
cooler $100
Hptuners (had it from my vette) ~free
metal and paint to extend crossmember $20
driveshafts shortened and lengthened, new joints $150
VSS connector, wires, and PCM pins $20
repin trans connector free
inspection cover $78 (85e 8.1L cover would not work)
sold 60e on craigslist (perfectly good trans) -$350

Total: $1813 and that's if you have HPT and already have a license for your truck/ don't need to buy credits.

For the harness, just buy a few PCM pins off ebay, a blank VSS connector w/ pins, and then use some wire to wire in the 80e VSS to the PCM. Or you could also buy the Speartech harness...

I'd be surprised if any shop that wasn't your cousin's/ best friend's/ etc charged anything under $1000 to do the swap. It's a lot of work.

Need either an hd version of t case or to swap out the input shaft on your tcase, if you can find a donor vehicle with tcase and trans, that would save some of that headache..... In my case i have the manually shifted 261ld tcase, if i could find a 2500hd with 4l80 and the 261hd or xhd thats probably the way id go and just rebuild trabs and t case at same time and do upgrades....

Just out of curiosity, why don't people just swap in the HD T-case instead of swapping the input shaft on the 1500 case? Seems like the input shaft swap is a PITA and the cost of the HD t-case would be worth it.

That was my thought, especially if you can find a donor vehicle with both already, does make more sense.... Last i checked only difference between the np261ld and np261hd/xhd is the input shaft for the 4l80/85 np246 maybe different.... Not something ive looked into....

thanks I was looking at the necessary parts to adapt the 80 to my tcase and when I looked at the tag to identify it its a np246? but it said it could have either a 27 spline or a 32 spline however the site did not identify how to know which input shaft it has, anyone have any thoughts on this thanks, also does anyone know what the electronic shift hd tcase number would be and how compatible it is thanks
