Default How much hp/tq can a stock tranny and rear take?

I have a 2006 silverado 5.3 and I'm going to start mods pretty soon; I have read that the weak link in the drivetrain will be my tranny. At what point will I have too much power for the tranny? After that, what can the stock rear hold?

I plan on the yank tt3000, 2002 ls6 cam, 4.11 gears, and probably some ported ls6 heads. next year after I get more miles on the truck (22,000 now) I plan on at least a 100 shot, unless I go FI. At what point will I need to upgrade the tranny? Thanks in advance for all the help.

Stock transmissions are protected by Torque Management in the PCM. What i mean to say is that the stocks transmission is already too weak.

yeah they're weak right off the lot. there's no set horsepower number that will break them. its all luck. best thing to do is to put in a shift kit, big tranny fluid cooler, and some servos and hope for the best. those mods will help. but if you start getting into serious modding and hp/tq gains, nothing will help your transmission.

theres no mileage gurantee either. iv seen them go at 30k with no mods at all. I can vouch for for it, mine went at 50k with nothing but exhaust. my rearend (g-80) went out at about 40k. more than likely they will last if you drive like a grandma. before i did any kind of modding i would definately do the trans mods like said above. its not a question of if it will go out its when....

Yup, it's not if, it's when. Mine just went out at 100k and the only mods i had were intake/ headers/ exhaust. Plus i had a shift kit and a cooler. If you are serious about making power, have the tranny built too.
