whats the most streetable carrier choice for the 10-bolt? Its a 4x4 1500 ext cab single frt mount turbo with about 550rwhp. 100 wetshot puts that number around 625rwhp. I have owned a powertrax lock-right and thats not something i want in this daily driver. It was WAYYYY too clunky and jerked on turns with 35's and a ford 8.8. I have a 10-bolt 4.10 G80 rear right now. Its just a ticking time bomb...

Stock axles are pretty damn strong, hell they are just as big is a 9in axle.. A good center, gears, girdle, should get you many many many passes well into the 10's, maybe deeper yet.. The girdle helps a ton imo, keeps **** from flexing, which is usually what breaks chit

I think the question should be, "How wide of tires can a 10 bolt handle?". If your tires go up in smoke with 400 whp and the differential can live at that power level, then any additional power won't matter. If you put wider tires on, or other traction improvers, and then it takes 500 whp to spin them, then your question should be "Can a 10 bolt survive 500 whp?".

Skinny tires protect drivetrains.

I can almost agree with this, but yes theres always a but.. Skinny tires isn't what protects the drive train. TRACTION is what kills a drive train.. I seem to think the guys going deep into the 10's and 9's are hooking pretty well. As said they have all used a 10 bolt.. If you have a 11.00 truck, I would think a 10 bolt, with a good set up would live for a very long time.. BTW I am sure you have seen them guys (outlaw 10.5) class going 6.6's all on that skinnny azz tire

Yeah what i meant was how much hp will a 10 bolt take and still leave on a dead hook. You can put 1000hp in front of a 10 bolt and if you just spin the tires it will last forever. But im going to put enough tire back there to hook and run 10s. I think stock axles will be fine, im going to just run a TA girdle and a damn good unit.

A lot of the guys going deep in the 10's and lower are doing so with turbo's and aren't launching nearly as hard on rearend's as radix and nitrous launchers...

I've seen parish on youtube run mid tens on stock radials. They may be making a ton of power by the 60 ft. mark, but in most cases turbo'd trucks seem to leave soft. I run 1.65 60' times spinning I got a dead hook one night and was told I pulled a wheel, (no video) I've never seen a turbo'd truck leave wheels up.

I may hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't know anybody that has done well with a high HP high torque application and a GM 10 bolt. Mine destroyed the spider gears on my Auburn posi. After a new posi, it blew again. I'm running a W-30 Olds 455 balanced, 0.30 over, 0.10 under, with a fair amount of toys (Edelbrock heads, aluminum rollers 1.6, Mondello intake, etc, and haven't even done the NOS yet, and had to do a Ford 9". In addition, it's safer!. Not worth spelling a broken axle onto the track as a battle cry.....
