I dont think these trannies work on that basis. I think they just keep adding clutches. It not a let go, grab this set type of deal on every shift. I could be completely wrong, that just came up to e while chatting with a trans guy. But we discussed a lot, as well as different trannies and makers...

If you dont like your 2-3 chirping, why not add in some TM or increase the shift time?

stock shift times, im fixing to add TM back in. Im not in the truck currently. I just think its dumb to start cutting the power of the motor back to have a good shift. The shifting on my 80 happens to be very random. I can get it shifting good WOT, then a day later its chirping. At the SAR meet it would chirp the 2-3 on the way to the track. At the track it wouldnt shift the 2-3. Yes I have a tire size change, but the shift was being commanded....

Are your shift times zero'd out? I've read that if you have a shift kit they need to be zero'd out or it will do the adaptive shift thing and keep increasing line pressure.

Actually they are kinda both on the 60e.
the 1-2 is accomplished by turning on the band. However the 2-3 involves relasing the band while simultainioulsy applying the 3-4 clutch then 4th is simply the band coming back on.

You however could not creat overlap in tuning so much as to hurt anything. That could only be created hydraulically via and improperly installed shift kit . servos etc.

so what you are saying is zero out the shift times, it is not a problem. We are talking about the 80e btw.

The 80e does not have any over lapping friction sets so yes zeroing out would be fine it will leave the hydraulics and the main line presure in control.
You see the way the PCM increases or decreases shift times is by chaging the line presure suring the shift. Adaptives should be disabled as the PCM could lower the line if it thinks the shift happens to quick .
And no 0 times would pose no issue as long as general line presure particulary with built trans which have generally already be calibrated to give optimal presure hydraulicaly are let stock.

Yes the 4l80e has no overlapping sets, While the 4l60e has both over the 2-4 band/3-4 clucth set . But as I mentioned in these two trans it would be impossible to create excessive overlap anyway with just tuning. They are really no different that the earlier totally hydraulic units. They just instead of a govenor and modulator use a PCS and SHIFT SOLENOIDS for simple on/off gear changes.Which is why they can so easily be switched to full manual.
Now the new 6 speed autos are a different story they use overlapping clutch apply through modulated signals from the PCM to get all gears. Which makes changes and other mods t them a little more tricky.
