let it hang and hit the side of the spindle where the ball joint goes in,don't try to hit the spindle downward

Just take out the rear Lower A arm bolts(2) and drop the spring from the rear of the A arms. Much quicker than removing the spindle if your doing coils.

mine came right out, with the frame on a jackstand, and the shock in place still to keep the torsion bar from unloading and both the top and bottom ball joint nuts removed it took 3-5 swings to the top of the spindle and the bottom joint came off and 2 more swings and the spindle fell right off. You could try some penetrating oil to get in there. The balljoint is tapered so try hitting the spindle side to side and front to back to try to loosen it also. Also the end of the balljoint has a hex socket that an allen key will fit in you could try to turn it to loosen it also, or you might be able to get a two jaw puller in there with the ears of the puller on top of the spindle and the bolt pushing the ball joint out.

some trucks have rivits instead of bolts. you need a fork. you want to have a jack under the lower control arm, if that was to break loose with no support that spring is going to fly out

Never seen one riveted in. Of course support it with a jack, it cant go to far out the back side of the A arms anyway though. It will be easy putting the drop coil in and putting everything back together also. Taking spindle apart on one side took almost an hour to do start to finish, dropping lower A arm start to finish 20 minutes tops.

i did mine by unbolting the lower control arm from the frame too. hell of alot easier than messing with the balljoints and stuff.
