How strong are GEN I frame and axles, 1/2 ton
How strong are the axles and frames in the 1/2 ton & 3/4 ton trucks vs. todays stuff (gen III) I have a very nice '82 1/2 ton 4x4 with a th350c and a '80 3/4 ton with a 400 sb and a th400.(the engine is out of a late 70's van)
The frames look the same size between the two trucks, is this true?
I prefer to have the 400 put into the 1/2 ton but I'm concerned with the axles and frame(the engine will be 500/530 at the crank). I think they'd hold fine just driving but if I tow 10,000 lbs, I'm a little worried. I don't do it alot, I just want to be sure that if I'm going easy when towing that much I'll be fine. I'd hate to get all this done and break an axle when I was going easy.
Thanks for the help.
