Howling noise after rear gear install?? Video inside!
Hey guys, I recently (about a month now) installed the following:
-4.88 USA Gear Ring and Pinion
-Eaton/Detroit TruTrac
-Master Install kit
Truck is RCSB, 6.0l LQ4, MPT70 and T56 swapped. Checked the trans already, put the truck on the lift and I know the noise is from the rear end.
Since the first couple drives the noise wasn't so bad, then it got worse and has since been about the same for the last 5 drives or so. The truck is only driven on decent days, so it hasn't had more than 100 miles on it. I put the truck on the lift and the noise seems to generate from the front of the diff housing, near the driveshaft flange/pinion bearing area.
Does this sound like an over tightened pinion/crush washer, thus ruining the pinion bearing? And setting the pinion depth too deep?? If so, due to the low mileage do you think I could just throw a new pinion bearing on and crush sleeve and tighten it more carefully?
The noise only occurs when cruising, really light throttle and on off throttle coasting it will make noise. Full coast, deccel, or acceleration it's quiet. You should be able to get the jist of it in the video.
Any expert opinions would be GREATLY appreciated!
