Default Hvyweight/Lightweight Vehicle Stall

Ive talked to several different people about this and nobody is quite certain which would be correct. Ive noticed that most cammed LSx truck guys run 3000-3600 stall.

Now my truck should only weigh about 3300lbs. with me in it. What size stall would be better for me. Since it ways less should it be a 242600ish stall or the opposite 4000 stall?

There will eventually be more mods for the truck, but would a stall make a good enough difference for me to actually do it?

Stall is similar at most weight, you want to find a stall that will keep your motor where it makes power, if your not making power until your above 5500rpms you want a bigger stall.
most of us are making most of our power from 3000rpms up, so the stall gets the truck to those rpms

Well if that is the case than the 4.3 doesnt need a stall as it quits making power most of the time above 5000RPM's anyways?

The point of the stall is to keep you where you make power
The guys you see on here with 3000+ stalls have larger cams that are a little sluggish below 3000rpms
for your truck unless you put a big cam in it i would not worry about it

So if you are going the cam route, find out where the cam will make power, and choose a stall accordingly.
so what do you have planned?

What ever makes me run faster. Only things I can think of that are left for the 4.3 is, headers, larger Y pipe (stock one is 1.75"), ported heads, 266 or 270AHR cam, maybe a stall, MPFI marine intake.

I cant think of any of bolt on's at the moment.

Then nitrous or boost.

You are going to need a higher rated converter to see the same stall speed as a FS truck... Stall speed is directly affected by vehicle weight, engine tq, and how the converter itself multiplies torque... The heavier and/or more powerful a vehicle is, the higher the converter will flash/stall to... My SS3600 in my sig flashed to ~3400 N/A, and in the same vehicle same motor, with just the addition of the turbo (considerably more tq) it will flash to over 4400...

In an S-10 I wouldn't want anything bigger than a 9.5in converter and something with a 3400 or larger stall speed depending on cam choice... Gear selection will change it slightly as well but it will be hardly noticeable in a light truck like yours... Hope this helps some.

hmmm, that converter is going to be expensive.... A 9.5 @ 3200+ is like 600-1000.... Motor swap maybe a better option....

Just match your converter to the new cam. You won't need a higher stall just because yours is lighter, you will just need one matched to your power level and your weight. I know those v'6s make most of there power and torque mid range. So a 2800- 3000 converter would probably work best.
