Default I am thinking about rebuilding my 4l80e myself any advice?

Well my tranny has never worked right since it has been in (all of 2 days that it was on the road) and after droping the pan I see chunks of metal and the fluid is tinted. The tranny has all 4 front gears but it does not have manual 1st or reverse. I am so broke from the LQ9 and 4l80e swap that I can not afford a pro rebuild. How hard would it be to rebuiold it myself? What rebuild kit should I use and what book would help me?

to rebuild a 4L80E you will need to few special tools, but they could be made from old TH400 parts. If you can get it rebuilt for $800 go for it, but don't expect any performance parts in it. Sounds like your rear band broke on you, I have only come across it once but it does happen.
