I have been searching about stock 80e stalls and have some questions
I need a 2200-2500 stall converter for my truck and it has the 80e tranny. I know that alot of guys run the I6 TB stall with the 60s. I was doing some research and found that the 80e was behind a 4.3 V6 in a 2500/3500 van and they stalled the highest of the different motors they have been behind. What I am asking, is with the added weight and the torque of my truck would that converter be in the range of where I want to be and would I still be able to tow with it? I don't see much since in paying 900 for a converter that is only a couple RPMs over stock if the stock stalls close to 2000. I was looking at TCI but since they don't give the stall of each TC and just the increase over stock I am not sure exactly what I need. I am also afraid that the stall they are advertising wasn't in a vehicled that weighs as much as mine. Any help is greatly appreciated I am trying to sort everything out now and get all the parts together for my motor swap. Thanks

A reg cab. If you feel that your current converter is too tight I think you will need a 2800+. Next time you drive the truck stand on the brakes and see what you can get it to stall to. You should see at least 2200 rpm.

Look into Edge converters. Seem to be quality individually built for your application and at some VERY good prices. I was gona go with a stock converter in my 80e till I found them. I'm like you and didn't want to pay 900-1000 for a damn converter. He recommended a "street edge" for me and will custom build it to for what ever I want even to fit my LS1 flex plate and crank hub. I think you would probable want the "mild street edge". He told me my truck will retain 100% street manners and can still tow just fine with them. He also told me that with his lock up clutch i could lock it up under WOT and it would probable brake the input shaft before the clutch slipped, lol. He said his "high carbon" lock up clutches are 140% stronger then 3 disk Kevlar.

I would try your stock converter out. The one in my 03 1500HD would brake stall to 2500 RPM when it was stock with a Superchips tune. Now with the STS turbo at 12 psi it will stall a little over 3000 rpm on the stock engine. I have not tried it yet on the new engine.
