alright the front end has been making this popping noise for a few months only when 4wd is engaged. i replaced both cv shafts and the u joints on the drive shaft. do you guys have any ideas??? i only hear the noise when 4wd is engaged. i'm sick of fighting this thing and don't have the money to take it to the dealer.

Is it definitely in the suspension? Or is it maybe inside the diff....

my rear end started popping when going from r to d. the nut backed off of the pinion and the pinion was riding on the carrier. probably not your problem but something out of the ordinary to check.

Just a thought, but how much are you going to spend by not taking it to the dealer??? Its awful hard to diag a noise over the web.

+1 on the steering shaft. I have to tell you it is one thing I hate about these trucks. Vince

i have a 02 silverado with autotrack with 108,XXX miles on it the problem has persistantly gotten worse over time. i understand about the whole diagnosing over the internet, i was just hoping that someone else has had the same problem. and as far as the steering shaft goes i know that rattle that will cost about $100 to fix. but i can live with that noise. this noise is very similiar but louder much louder and it sounds like its coming from underneith the front end. and it only makes the noise in 4wd when i'm stepping on the gas. oh and the truck is all stock.

Have you checked the front shaft u-joints?
