Default I love the 80E, I HATE the 80E...

I cant get over how bad the 80E sucks for anything but a turbo truck. The 1st gear simply kills ET but at the same time it is awesome on the freeway and top end racing.

For anyone thinking about the swap consider it carefully. I didnt expect it to have quite the impact it did but those of us that have done the swap are sitting at about half a second slower than we should be for our MPH.

At this point I dont have the cash to afford to go back to the 4L60E so I'm stuck and will just have to work around it. Or race Supra style.

I agree... Breaking 60's routinely was nothing nice, but I really think I should have considered an FLT level5 65e. The ratios in the 80e are awesome, it flies through the gears once out of the hole. The 60e falls on its face when shifting from 1-2.

Bill, (Trever1t) is making the same amount of power 448rwhp vs 448 rwhp. However, the time slips differ greatly in terms of mph.

Thats peak power though. Could you calculate avg. HP and AVG. TQ? I think that would be the most scientific way to do it.

When I installed my 80e I also installed a 2800 art carr convter. Now that I'm back to the stock conveter I'm really glad I have the LQ4's torque....

The integral of the either the hp or tq curve will give you the avg.

Why don't you tryJohn Kilgore's planetary gear sets? A common choice is the 2.75 or the 3.00 first gear. 2nd gear also changes. It will be almost identical to what the 60e was out of the hole. (less .06)
