For anyone thinking about the swap consider it carefully. I didnt expect it to have quite the impact it did but those of us that have done the swap are sitting at about half a second slower than we should be for our MPH.

At this point I dont have the cash to afford to go back to the 4L60E so I'm stuck and will just have to work around it. Or race Supra style.

what motor do have going by u'r sig u still have a 5.3

Aye, 5.3L high compression (10.8:1). I can only pulley down so far before I imagine I'll run into problems.

I was not aware that they made lower gear sets for the 80E. I'm going to have to look into that. Would make my day to have a 3.00 1st gear set.

PI basically has 3 stalls for the 80E and I already have the loosest one. It stalls right around 3000rpm which is where I want it. Its the 1st gear in the trans that kills me. I'd have to have a 4400 stall to try and even get close to the 1st gear hit of the 60E and attain similar 60's.

Bill, I'll check my schedule and see if I can make it. I htink I have a Point Reyes trip this weekend though. I'd love to get that pulley though. Maybe then people will stop making fun of my 3.70 dinner plate lol

As far as gear sets, the one I have heard about gives you a 2.75 1st gear rather than the 2.48 in a stock 80E. The thing you would have to worry about again is the 1-2 shift falling on it's face....not sure how much of a difference you would feel going from 2.48-1.48 vs going from 2.75 to 1.48. What is 2nd gear in the 60E? I can't remember right now.

I noticed a drop in times but an increase in MPH between my two setups, detailed below:

5.3, Radix, 3.0" pulley, 210/218-551/551-116 cam, 4L60E, meth, stock converter
Stalled up to about 2000 RPM on the launch
1.92 60'
13.57 @ 99 mph

6.0, Radix, 3.0" pulley, 216/224-551/551-115 cam, 4L80E, water only, 3000 stall converter
Stalled up to 1500 RPM or so (higher would give me knock)
2.05 60'
13.66 @ 104 mph

I have since moved down to a 2.8" pulley, got the tune straightened out so I can stall all the way up to 3000 without getting KR, and I'm going to be throwing some meth at it here pretty soon, so I'm hoping to hit much better times.....but....I spent almost $10,000 to not get much faster, and I think most of the blame lies with the 80E. I might consider swapping 1st gear to the 2.75 at some point, but I'm going to try really hard to hit 12's this winter with my 2.48 1st gear. The one thing that is very nice, however, is to know that I am not going to be breaking tranny parts. I spent about as much to get myself a built 80E and the conversion kit as I would have for an FLT level 5 60E.

Anyway, as you guys said, racing on the freeway is kickass with the 80E, it's nice to be able to drop to 2nd at 85mph

get a rossler t-brake. I have a 80e in my f-body...3.23 gears. and a 2400 stall. Havent run the tbrake at the track but my 2400 stall has been to 4300 on the brake so far in the driveway. You keep full electronic shifts too...here is mine:

Damn, when did they come out with a T-brake for the 80E? lol

I've always been impressed by your car. (I used to race my T/A and C5).

I'll have to see how we could set something like that up in the truck. My tuner sells an all-in-one 2step box so we could easily incorporate and tune a setup like that. It may not fix my high 1st gear problem but launching that high in the powerband will defaintely help ET. Thanks for the input.

With EFILive you can set up a custom O/S in the PCM that acts like a 2-step.

How hard is a t-brake on downstream parts? I wouldn't want to start shredding axle splines ot ring gears or anything like that.
