These guys can fix you up with a good trans at a good price. http://www.ptcrace.com/
Make sure you tell them to set it up for an electronic speedo.

It's very easy to do a th400 swap. You will just need the tranny of course and then a custom convertor along with a manual shifter. For the crossmember just weld up an extension on the backside and you'll be good to go. Also the shorter driveshaft is necessary the cheapost way it to take your stock one and then one with the yoke for a th400 and have a local shop make one driveshaft out of them. I think I paid around 100 for my complete driveshaft using my old one as parts. Also, make sure you know if you have a short or long tail tranny. That should be the basics. Also for the tuning you basically need a tune for manual truck. Also keep in mind your truck will always think it's in D best thing is to put black tape on it.

Hmmm I may look into this. You shouldnt need the bellhousing, just a converter, driveshaft, crossmember, and not sure what else. I thought about doing this, then got the FLT. Now I have a TH400 sitting in the yard too, but probably going in the older truck. If you can figure out a way to make a Pontiac TH400 bolt up, I know someone that has three 400/400 Pontiac combos, Im sure I may.... I mean he may be able to part with one (actually my step-dads, but Ive been designated the engine mechanic, so he told me I can use one setup in the '76, the others are in moms 69 Formula and the 75 T/A)
