Default i think i broke it...

ok was going to work this morning, and i think i hurt my baby. the city just repaved the road infront of the house, so it is nice and sticky well i run it up to 27-28 mphs (for that sweet *** downshift to 1st) and it did something new. instead of downshifting and sqealing like a stuck pig and rollin out... i got massive MASSIVE wheelhop. now during acceleration (50% WOT or more) it has a really nasty vibe in the drivetrain. and if you really get in it (85-90%WOT) and let out @ speedlimit to set cruise... it keeps the vibration. so accelerating slow you dont feel it and its all gravy. 1/2 pedal to 3/4 pedal it vibes during acceleration. 3/4 or more it shakes like hell, and keeps with it till you do a full stop. Damn it, someone help me here... what did i break??

maybe, i dunno. they LOOKED good... i mean it was 4 am so i didnt grab a tape measure or anything. i was thinking drive shaft maybe. it was really violent for a sec, it jumped 4-5 times in a heart beat. i had a big styrofoam cup from 7-11 in my console and when this happened it broke the cup in half. so i got a big gulp on my carpet, no cell phone now, and wallet is soaked. i havent drove it again since but i will check after work.

Might have thrown a driveshaft weight or broke a yoke just enough to cause an imbalance? just guesses

Your truck is 2wd isn't it? If you are 4wd you can swing over and try my driveshaft while my truck is down.

a buddy of mine and his axle rolled it hooked so hard and knocked his pinion angle out of alignment. Maybe it's that.

I've heard of instances of bending an axle shaft during wheel hop... but I've never witnessed it happen

I didn't think the axle halves bent. I thought they were hardened steel? If they were to bend, they should break IMO. Guess it all depends on what type of hardening process they went through.

I thought that too, but a friend with a 03 Sierra that had a vib. at highway speeds ended up having his axle shafts replaced because they were bent, at least thats what the shop said .
