Default I Think My Pump Took A Dump!

My truck wont shift in any gear just free revs fluid is clean but shows high on dip stick. How hard to change pump? It's a 4l65e and should I get a new complete pump or just buy the parts to build, I will be removing cooling line to see if pump is problem. Thanks

Sounds like you are are on the right track for diagnosing the trans failure. If you have broken the rotor/slide, the pump itself will probably need to be resurfaced. In most cases this can be done if the damage is minimal. However it is probably easier to replace the pump than to try and fix it yourself. Here is a link to the pumps we sell. Vince

Didnt even get a chance to mess with today. Can I install a pressure gauge in the tap on the drivers side to read pressure? If I can what is normal idle pressure?

Yes. About 70 -90 with a shift kit. If it does not make at least 50psi at idle you have a broken pump.

Vince I really appreciate the help. I have no pressure at all I use a 100 psi. gauge. I thought the gauge might be bad but i blow air in the end and it moves the needle. What causes the pump to fail?

How does the converter hub look? I have seen them cause pump failures in the past. It is also a possibility that debris have made there way into the pump from the converter/trans and started causing the problem. For some reason trucks seem to be breaking the most pumps of all in which I have seen. I believe it might be a weight issue and the lock up apply might be weakening them going down the road. This is just a theory. We are looking into making a billet rotor for these pumps.

well removed it yesterday and what a mess. I have a ton of metallic goop in the pan it has to be everywhere. So I dont think just replacing the pump going to work. I spoke with the nonsponser transmission junk guy and he will take it back and go threw it. I will have to go that route for now which sucks but will replacing the torque converter and will be saving to send my 4l80e to Vince and be done with this. That transmission is to heavy to install and remove and expensive. I should have gone to strip club if I wanted to throw money away...
