Default install???

ok i just bought a G80 and 3.73. how hard of an install is this? i have done installs on older rearends on drag cars and such so will it be harder than normal? my mechanic is sick so i am considering me and a friend doing the install. any special tools or tricks would be a big help

yes there's alot to it... If you are considering doing the install.... just walk away now, b/c if you already Don't know how involved it is, you should not try and do it for a first time. This is something that takes a special tool to check the backlash and and you need to be able you get all the gear teeth in line, especially if you are changing gears. Just pay someone to do it right the first time.

that is what i figured. how do you like your 3.73? i have heard they are pretty good all around gears

the posi you could do yourself. gears would be a more PITA

well, i reused my bearings and this is two of the tools i needed. one was made for me and the other was purchased at a tool shop. so, if you plan on reusing the bearings i think you'll need these. Yes it is a little rusty. my garage door was open during some wet days and the moisture was getting to it.

oh, not sure if you can tell by the photo, but if you look at the silver tool, it is bent from the last gear change. it can be a pita.

Yeah, doing a gear change is about the only thing I won't do. It is worth the money to just have someone else do it. Any yes, you will need a pinion depth setting tool.
