Default Install Kit

Which install kit should I get for gear change? The one with axle bearing or not? 35k miles on vehicle, going from 3.42 to 4.10, keeping G80

While you have it apart, might as well install a better posi, too. If not, you'll be in it again, soon. Make sure you get the right install kit! That's the problem I've been fighting. Housings prior to 99 had small bearing (2.89) axles need bearing LM-102949, and race LM102911. 99 and up have big bearings (3.06) need bearing LM 603049, and race LM-603012. 2 each, of course for either housing.

I would definetly do bearings while I was in there. I don't think you will have to have axle bearings though. Be sure to break in the new setup for about 500 miles or so. You are actually just running the bearings though heat cycles to break them in. I've heard to drive about an hour then let it cool down a while before driving again. That just what I heard though.

wkdivr, was the gear change in the 04?

Planned on doing heat cycles. Probably let the shop take care of that part, maybe.

Is it wrong to request to see the seat pattern before the button everything up?

Just got off the phone with gear manufacturer. 8.5 and 8.6 are interchangeable and I dont necessarily need the full install kit (axle seals and bearings) and make sure to get the 3.06 carrier seal and bearings.

No. It seems, just the size of the differential side bearings. Prior to 99 was the small bearing bores, and 99 and up have the larger bearing bores. I think the actual posi unit is the same, though.

It would nearly double the cost. I cannot seem to find anything under $500.
