Really I did not do install shop did .I know them well and they sent me away after putting new case in and told me make sure all is well after a week then come back ........so if this truly the cause then i should not expect to pay for all the extra labor and case .......I dont want to screw them but with only 16000 miles on truck I did not expect this unless a flaw in case ......but if not seatingthe snap ring can cause this then I feel bettr cuse this is my DD and not a mod motr but my weekend towq vehicle it needs to be reliable

Thats my understanding is that if you do not push the cover in and seat that snap ring good it will crack fast

I have seen this happen on a few occasions, If the snap ring is not seated well, Fully installed or even has trash under it. It will work its way out and break the case out right where the snap ring goes. Now is there a possibility that the case was weak in that area and just broke? Of course but its not likley.

Seen this happen on a FireBird. I work at the college where I went to school for Automotive Tech. The students working on the car couldnt get the snap ring in so they decided to use a screwdriver and hammer. I dont think I need say more.
