Default Installed new converter and now trouble...

Just so happens that as soon as I got the new converter in the trans starts slipping. Makes me think something is wrong with the converter or I did something wrong. Kinda coincedental huh.... What could I have done wrong?

Are you sure it's full of fluid?

check the trans level, it should go down after the swap . . . even if it's topped off before install

Like mentioned check the fluid level and is this a replacement stock converter? A stall? what was in it before and what did you put in.

I've checked the fluid levels periodically for the first 5-10 miles after the install and it was actually over full. I will check it again today just for ***** and giggles.
I replaced the tt3000 with circle d 3600-3800. Yank was 11" and circle d is 9.5". I lost a bunch of fluid when taking the old one out. I put 1/2 quart in the new converter before I put it in and after start-up I put 3-1/2 more.
The slip that I'm talking about feels more like when the pump breaks and the truck just revs like it's in neutral. I slow down a bit and take off again and everything seems fine. Last night I was cruising about 70mph in 3rd and layed in it. The converter lets it slip to higher rpm and it held for about a second then it "let go" and hit on the rev limiter. It's weird. Seems like if it was the pump it would either break or not break.

Dam I put almost gallon of fluid in my 80e converter IIRC.

I think you should have gotten over a quart in that TC pretty easily?

Are you positive the converter was seated all the way in the trans before you installed it?? And I have seen this happen once before, you didn't accidently kink a cooler line did you???

Everything went together fine no hoses kinked or anything. I went play in it today and pretty much all I can see is that 3rd is the only gear I have trouble with. Before the swap we were having trouble setting the 2-3 shift. It would either hit the rev limiter or shift about 200-400 rpm's late. Seems with the extra heat from the smaller converter diameter and higher stall it's getting worse.
No more guessing though, I just pulled it out. I'm gonna get it to my tranny builder in Lafayette and should be going pick it up next friday morning and be good to go. Just gonna go through everything and get it freshened up. I'm thinking of getting a deeper trans. pan for more fluid. Is it even worth changing? I know it definately won't hurt.

The deeper pan should help with fluid temps very slightly, but nothing major. Make sure that you have enough clearance with your y-pipe before you buy the pan though. The B&M aluminum pan looks very nice btw, or you could just get a factory deep pan (which is what my truck came with). I've often thought about getting the B&M pan myself, but I'm not sure about clearance with my SW y-pipe, plus I need to spend money elsewhere on the truck first lol
