A shift kit will firm it up nice. Just make sure your shift pressures are not too high in the tune because once you add the shift kit they will need adjusted down depending on where they are now.

Yea just working with the tune makes the 80E shift nice even without the shift kit.

had a question about this. Is it worth throwing a shift kit in the 4l80e or can a tune get it good enough? I know its a little different than the 60e and that there is no servo swap..what are the basic upgrades that you would recommend?

Depends on how much power you plan on putting to it..
Tyler is running mid 10s in a 2wd Extended cab with a stock 80E.

heads/cam/fbo lq4 is all..in a 4x4 reg cab short box..some type of converter idk what speed yet..you think just a tune would get the job done? I suppose I could always add a shift kit if i was unhappy with it

oh yea that would be plenty. HD2 wont hurt but it will be fine without it if the tune is setup good.

Good deal. Now another question. The thing I love about my built trans in the tahoe is that it will hold first gear for as long as I want. Can i do that with just the tune for the 4l80e or will i need the shift kit, like my tahoe, to achieve that?
