i dont think its so much the 408 took it out i think the donuts and rolling burnouts may have alot to do with it, trans probably got really hot then finally let loose!!

but nonetheless that 408 is stout !! from what i know about it!

oh well seems like you have plans in place for a 80E, personally a 4l60e will handle quite a bit of NA power !! been running mine for 4+ years without a hickup with countless track passes

A 60e can be made to last, but you have to be mindful that you are running a 60e. Most people get a built 60e and beat the **** out of it, and then get upset when it lets go as if it was some indestructible piece. They won't take brutal abuse like the 80e can. They are car transmissions, IMO...

Keep the trans temps down, and neutral drops and things of that nature to a minimum and it'll live. No guarantees at the track though, shock load from the rear end was what killed my 60e.

Agreed. I've broken my 60 with a bone stock 4.8L 4 times now. No more. My next trans is gonna be a T56 Magnum.

I've owned the truck for 10 years, so if you average it out i guess it's not so bad. I do suspect the billet servos I installed in the trans are the main reason it's broken hard parts so many times. That 1-2 shift can be extremely harsh...

I'm also currently in the process of building a 408, so I'm kinda glad the 60e died now and not as soon as I got the 408 installed.
