I am not a trans expert but these are just some of things I have come accross. If you just take it apart in assemblies and replaced the damaged parts it should not be to hard... But if your not comfortable doing a transmission I recomend you find a good builder. I would recomend getting a book on it like an ATSG book or a factory manual. I took every last part out just to get an idea what was inside and to get everything clean. I also wanted to check every part inside and out, but I have not gotten around to actually putting one back together

I dont know the history behind your truck, was the engine or transmission ever removed? What year is your truck and what engine is in it. I have heard of the flywheel cracking on the 6.0's but the 5.3 and 4.8 use a different fly wheel. I have never heard or seen that on one of them.

Your noise seems to be crankshaft speed related, and sounds like converter bolts or flexplate. It's easy enough to get a look at the converter bolts, a little harder to see the flexplate bolts. I'd recommend not driving it until it's fixed, surely something is being damaged worse every time you start & run the engine. Just gonna cost you more money by putting it off.
