Default Knock or Thump in your Steering Wheel or Column?

Hey all....if you suffer from the always present Knock or Thumpin in your steering wheel or steering cloumn, now there's some relief.

GM has started distributing the New Design of the Intermediate Steering Shaft! The do have some constraints on ordering them. But if you'll call your dealership and request this part # 19153614 then they should be able to order you a new one! At long last!

So far the new shaft has shown no problems like the old ones. We have installed about 6 so far with no comebacks. This new shaft has a sealed end and a kind os dry slide like lubricant. The older one had an open end (hence the leaking of the lube) and used like a white grease.

As of now the retail is about $96.00 but I try to turn em' out at $69.99

I did this upgrade and can report good results. Steering feels like it should.

So far yours still feels good right? How many miles have you put on it since the change?

I was wondering what that noise was! I thought it was a ball joint or something but thought it to be a little odd since my truck only has 18,000 miles. Is there anything I can do to my stock to stop the noise like grease it something? It sounds like

Feedback thru the steering colum. It is more felt than heard. Feels like something in the steering is knocking, metal to metal.
The fix reduces feedback so steering feels smoother.

Don't let the dealership grease it....that's a temp.fix.

Make them replace it with that part # I told you. You under warranty, use it!

I as well had mine changed, MUCH better...steering is tighter and a lot smoother...but I raised hell with the GM rep about having to pay for something their engineers should of figured out LONG ago and he replaced mine for free...
