Default Leaf springs different from 99 to 06?

Ok guys, I took my overload springs out and installed some drop shackels last night. Me and my bro then compared the difference from his truck(the 99) and mine. They have the same diameter tires and they both measured the same distance from the top of the tire to the fender well. BUT, his truck still has the overloads installed! All he has are the lowering shackels which are the same brand as the ones I bought. So my question is, do the 99's have softer springs? I'm thinkin they do, because I think the newer trucks have a higher payload, therefor stiffer springs. Am I right? If so, i'm gonna look for some 99 leaf springs, cuz with all I did back there, its barely level with the front.

His are probably just worn. The stock springs on my 2000 were sagging like crazy, so I ended up getting some off of a low-mileage '05, and the truck sat about an inch higher in the rear.

Visually, the springs were identical. All of the leafs were the same length, width, and thickness, so I'm attributing the height gain to the newer springs having MANY less miles. I'd guess it's the same in your case.

Ok, yeah that makes sense.. But that reminds me, i used to have a 2000 rcsb as well and it sat a little taller than my bro's truck as well. My 06 has 99k miles on it and my bro's got 160k. Now what if i can find some 99 model high mileage leafs, just cuz they are saggin shouldn't make them dangerous (weak) should it?

As long as the leafs aren't cracked and the bushings are in good shape they won't be dangerous.

It’s very possible the springs are just sagging (probably are after this many years), but just because both of you have 2WD short bed ½ Tons really doesn’t mean allot. There are a multitude of spring packs, depending on which option code you have for your particular truck. I'm not suggesting there are bunch of different ones for just the SBSC trucks, but across the lines in general there are several. The same thing applies to the 4WD group as far as the front torsion bars are concerned, there a pretty good variety of them in all different spring rates.
