The factory aluminum driveshaft is only balanced to 3000 rpm and does not give you much warning before it lets go. When I tried to have a custom shaft built, the length was an issue and balancing was a bigger issue. There are no performance benefits between a 1 and 2 piece driveshaft but there is a safety factor if you want to see some track time.

Take a spaghetti noodle, hold it by each end and spin it between your fingers, then break it in half, do it again with the shorter piece, which one is more stable? That's all that's going on here. There's greater forces acting on the center portion of the longer shaft, they get exaggerated because the center is farther away from fixed points and allows more flex. The shorter the shaft is, the less this comes into play. The easier it is to balance, and the greater speeds it will withstand. Material does play a role in this too but that's basically why.

I got a spare 2 piece shaft for when I did my 80e swap and all I did was take it to a shop for a yoke change for the 80 and upgraded the u joints to some beefy ones and put it in and adjusted all my angles just right and now that's its been in there for over a year and and i have hit 140ish mph a few times and hasn't had a hiccup.
Have my stock 2 piece ds ill sell locally btw.
