Default Locking front diff.?

Truck is in my sig. Do Z71s come with locking front diffs? I was told by the dealership that all 4x4 trucks now come from the factory with locking front differentials and I can't really find any information on this. Can anyone confirm this?

I don't think so. In fact, I don't think any of the GM trucks (1500) come with a locking front. Unless they changed it for 05. I can't believe that they way GM is cutting costs though.

You can't really lock the front diff if you plan on using it for on road use. To my knowledge GM has never put anything other than an open diff up front in any vehicle they have ever manufactured.

OK, I guess I meant limited slip/posi up front, not a true locker/spool.

No one makes anything for a 8.25 ifs front end gm doesn't aftermarket doesn't no one does. the only way to get it to spin both tires would be to weld it witch i'm not sure if you can even do that.

Eaton makes a locking front diff for the 8.2 and 9.2 front diffs. Its is electric and runs about $600.

The axle shatfs themselves have lockouts that take the place of the older style trucks that had lockout hubs. It doesnt give any more tration, just lessens drag while in 2wd mode.

Nope, they don't have anything out for the 8.2. If I recall they were going to make one, but I guess they scrapped the plan It would be sweet to have a locker from the front, but I don' think the 8.2 can handle it.

thats why they don't have one i've researched over and over they all say that if you lock it up and get it in a bind it will break. but they do have one for the 9.25. so if parish8 ever gets his swap figured out and lets us know how to do it then we can all lock it up tight.
