Default Longer shocks up front..

Anyone try longer shocks up front? I was able to dig through a bunch of shocks at the local auto parts store till I was able to find some longer ones that bolted right up. With new shocks I was able to get about 2 1/2" more out my front suspension. My dad done this on his 10 sec luv & it help. Is it going to help my truck? Idk I was told by the old timers I hangout with, that the more upward suspension travel you have in the front applies that much more downward force on the rear. Plan on going to the track as soon as I get retuned & underdrive pulley installed.
