lowering and towing
I 've got an uncontrollable desire to lower my 2wd xcab silverado.
I tow a 5000 lb boat.
so...
front is not an issue , either belltech spindle,2" or mcgaughs 2' or eibach springs, 2.5"
the rear is simple, hangers and /or shackles for 2-3"
Question is ...drop in rear and tongue weight, I can flip the receiver around or get one with more offset to compensate for change in ride height and make the whole thing sit level,
will all this be ok for towing, what do i need to be aware of to do this, is there a down side or reason not to tow with this drop. in theory, if i don't change the rear spring rate, just the ride height ,
and if i have the right receiver so it all sits level i should be ok
thanx

Get a 6 inch drop reciever and flip it over that should give you enough lift. If you use shackles you should be fine in the rear. If I were you I would get some adjustable shocks for the that way when you are towing you can set them alot stiffer so you dont bottom out. My buddy has ecsb with a 3/5 drop on it and he has towed my truck on a low boy trailer before and that combination tops 6500#s and he didnt have a problem. Get some good shocks and you won tneed bags. FYI I have heard the mcgaughys is the better setup.

yeah, mcgaughs is the way to go except you need 17" wheels with their front spindles, I've got 20's but have 16" steel wheels and snows for the winter and that would mean more $$$ for winter rims and tires. oh well, it's only money.

If you haven't lowered yet, do the C-section with air bags- you will never bottom out and you'll never regret it. You don't need to go all elaborate with the on-board comperssor. Just put the air valve at the gas filler plastic housing. I did that on my '99 ecsb and it towed my boat like a champ.
