Default lowering the z71 progress...

Iv been looking at the DJM 3/4 kit sitting in my floor for over a month now and finally had time to start this weekend. I might have had the front done by now but I had some problems with the ball joint on the LCA. I finally figured out it wasnt coming out with the axle in. The clearence is way too tight. I got the passenger side done and the driver side mostly done.

So for future reference: The axle has to come out, just loosen the 8? bolts, take the cover off the hub, loosen the bolt(36mm) and just pull it out.

I would hate to know what a shop would charge to replace that ball joint.

I just lowered mine also. Its really an easy install. I didnt install rear hangers i just removed the blocks and added the shackles. I used the lowering spindles upfront.

I went the cheap easy route...drop keys, 2" shackles and blocks removed. It was a piece of cake. Maybe someday, if I ever see what money looks like again, I'll try spindles or LCA's up front and add some hangers in the rear.

Did you take the bed off for the install. Everybody tried to get me to take mine off but I didn't. Would have made some parts easier.

yeh i did. Then I was by myself and was gona stand the bed on its end so i could clean it and as soon as i picked it up the front corners folded under and broke. I couldnt imagine doing it with the bed on, unless i had a lift.
